Black Tears Cuban Spiced Rum is a spiced rum from the Vigia distillery in Ciego de Avila, on the island of Cuba. Vigia was founded in 1577 and will become part of the historic joint venture between the Cuban government and The Island Company of Norway in 2019. The distillery has 2 copper columns from which 'aguardientes' and pure alcohol flow. Vigia produces rums under its own brand, as well as the La Progresiva and Black Tears brands.
Black Tears is made from Cuban rum aged for 2 years in ex-bourbon casks. It is then infused with 100% natural spices. These include coffee beans, cocoa and sweet aji dulce peppers. Everything comes from the best Cuban terroirs, and no artificial flavourings are added. It contains just 9 grams of sugar per litre.
Its name, Black Tears, is inspired by the famous song Lagrimas Negras, a Cuban music standard composed in 1929.
