Pampero Especial was the first rum aged in wooden barrels in Venezuela. It played a pioneering role in the history of rum and even became a quality standard for other rums. The creators of Pampero began ageing rum in old oak barrels in 1938. Especial rum was the first Venezuelan rum to officially have its age (añejo) on its label. It has won gold medals in taste tests. Pampero Especial is aged in old oak bourbon casks. Its attack is creamy and smooth, slightly spicy and slightly dry. Woody, honeyed, sweet and fruity notes then emerge on the finish. Triple distillation helps Especial rum achieve its golden colour. It is reminiscent of the complexity of the Caribbean coast, with its impressive mountains interspersed with woods and valleys. Especial rum can be enjoyed neat, but also lends itself to delicious cocktails.
